3:30 A.M New Delhi Railway Station
Standing and waiting for the arrival of the Paschim Express that was bound to take me to Chandigarh was tedious as usual but today was slightly different. There was a certain eerie vibe in the surroundings this time as the occasional hustle bustle in the station was not that much evident as it used to be. It was not the usual scenario of the Delhi railway station as the train that was arriving was 3 hours ahead of the usual schedule and the platform number 5 was a secluded one. People really didn’t prefer travelling to Chandigarh by Train as the Enthralling driving experience to Chandigarh by road was worth an experience.
Well the announcement of the train arriving woke me up from my imaginary bachelor party dream that I had been planning since the time I was engaged to my Fiancé Deeksha.
I arrived near the train, checked my name and spot. Akash Mehrotra 89 A. Picked up my luggage, a skybag and a bagpack. And waited for the train to start in order to reach my destination as quickly as possible.
Well I haven’t yet introduced myself properly Well I am Akash Mehrotra, investment banking analyst at Tirpent corporation pvt ltd. An exporting company in Finland. I had a brief stint as an engineer before in ZS associates before I pursued my MBA.
I met Deeksha through the traditional way Indian people meet girls for Arranged Marriages.
Shaadi.com and it was more of a compromise than a mutual decision as my parents were pressurising me to marry at the tender age of 32(…duh).
Well Deeksha was a decent looking modern girl with good family values and a great sense of judgement and perspective because she chose me. She worked as a primary school teacher in the Springdales school in new Delhi.
Well as I was thinking about how my life would be changing. I didn’t realise I was already 30 minutes into the journey and that the train would be reaching the Panipat junction and hence new passengers
Would be arriving anytime soon.
Train stopped at the station and a young and a beautiful lady of around the age of 25-26 with a purple bag and sky-blue colour purse was coming to occupy berth number 89 B. Damn she was beautiful her lovely face reminded me of the Bollywood actress Priety Zinta, though she wasn’t my favourite at all.
I just kept scanning her with my malicious eyes and was almost about to be caught when suddenly a squeaky little voice interrupted me and made me aware of the fact that I was soon going to be married man with a heavy dose of responsibility of not staring at any women in such a way.
“Would you mind helping me mister”, Said she
I helped her with her bags until we finally settled down for the remaining journey.
We were enjoying the tea by the railway pantry ,it wasn’t that good but still moderate enough to take out the stress of the yet tiring journey.
I broke the ice by starting the conversation with her and introduced myself and asked her name.
“Hii! I am Jipsa “said she and I asked her casually the reason for her visit to Chandigarh.
“My parents reside in Chandigarh whereas I pursue my career in journalism and mass media in Delhi.
I have been interning with CNBC for the last 2 years and hence was eagerly in a need of a family get together in order to gain back my senses.”
I told her about my life and how things were going to change soon after the bachelorette party that my friends had scheduled for me in Chandigarh.
There was something peculiar about her. I noticed her wearing a very heavy bronze gents watch.
Well that really seemed strange as none of the girls never preferred wearing such heavy watches in the wrists. The watch looked somewhat familiar.
We randomly talked about our families and how both of us were involved and connected with each other’s profession some way or the other as CNBC TV18 was one of the only news channels that displayed the stock market ratio of the countries in Europe as well in India and it received a much amount of money kickback as a reward from Tirpent industries.
We even chatted how the watch was of great importance to her as that was given to her mom by her Naanaji and has been passed to the younger girl ever since. Well though that was peculiar but still I found it quite interesting.
We chatted about politics, feminism, how GST and demonetisation have benefited us as a country and how “The Donald trump” would be defeated by “THE ROCK” in the upcoming presidential elections in USA.
It felt as if we both had a unique connection.
The journey was great and interesting and totally fun.it was lovely to spend time with someone who was pretty and frank enough to hold good conversations.
And we didn’t even realise that we had reached our station until we stopped talking and were reminded by fellow passengers.
Well we wished each other luck and went our own ways.
It took me a while to realise that I had left my mobile phone in the train.
I rushed back to find it out and luckily It was there. I also saw a strap coming out of the seat of Jipsa.
It was her watch. It was a limited edition 1972 Rolex with the letters inscribed on the back strap 78 H NU-block Chandigarh.
I took the watch and starting looking for Jipsa at the station I couldn’t find her anywhere and hence took it as a moral responsibility of returning the watch to its rightful owner.
I boarded a taxi and asked it to drop me at NU block though it was quite away from the resort where they already had my party planned.
I reached a locality mentioned Sanjeevani apartments, the only one present in NU Block and entered and enquired about flat number 78 H.
The guard helped me with the directions to the H tower and I reached the 7th floor and flat number 8.
Jipsa was surprised to see me and was hence really overwhelmed on seeing me return her watch and insisted me to join her for coffee.
Well it seemed strange that no one was in her house except herself as she told me she was going to visit her parents.
After seeing the inquisitive look on my face, she told me that her parents weren’t aware of her coming back as it was a surprise for them
Each of the family member has one spare key for emergency.
I thought it would be great if I invite her for my bachelorette. We were friends now. I didn’t even realise that I had spent almost 2.5 hours in her house after receiving calls from Pankaj, the organiser and my best mate since school.
I really wanted her to join me to the party as it would be lovely to have her there.
So, I asked her if she would be joining me to the party and she wouldn’t feel insecure as I assured her that there were enough girls in the party as well.
She finally agreed and I booked a cab to the Chandigarh Zillah, a resort where we had booked the discotheque for an entire night.
We reached the venue and there I greeted my collegemates and my office buddies along with few people I were in contact with from my school.
I introduced Jipsa to all of them and after few casual talks we started partying and enjoying.
I drank and danced as if there was no tomorrow. suddenly I felt a strange nausea and I felt as if I was losing control over all my senses until I passed out.
The next day,
I woke up in the police van,
What the hell just happened, I was in a sudden grip of panic and immense fear. I was looking for answers to my questions, I was surrounded by policemen and media personnel all over. After the starting of the van I realised the fact that I was guilty of murdering Pankaj and my office buddy Sohail by assault and hitting both of their heads by a steel rod.
I was stunned and shocked and a wave of current just passed through my spine. I was being taken to the police station.
I reached the police station and was interrogated for the reasons of my crime.
“I don’t remember hitting anyone, Sir.”
“You think we are fools.” said the police inspector
I was booked for assault and double murder and was confined to imprisonment in Chandigarh until my court proceedings start. I enquired for my lawyer.
I was under police custody for 7 hours until my mom and dad took a flight to Chandigarh from Delhi.
I was puzzled and depressed at what my situation was going to be.
Will my marriage be affected or would I be hanged?
These questions kept on popping in my head. I tried to deviate my mind as much as I could but how could I. I was in a fucking jail and I had no answers.
I could just wait and pray for justice.
Three years later …
Happy anniversary dear , I told Deeksha. Thank you, my love, she told me with a sweet peck on my cheek . Yes, I was a married man and definitely free.
You never know what life has in turn for you. I was celebrating my anniversary with my now wife Deeksha which wouldn’t have been possible if Sonali wouldn’t have confessed to her crime.
Yes, there was never any Jipsa. The girl with the Bronze watch was Sonali, one of my college batchmates while I was pursuing my B. Tech. A crazy, alcoholic classmate who was obsessively in love with me since my college days and had been planning this since the time she got to know about my engagement. She had been stalking me continuously since the last 8 years and went down to the extent of undergoing plastic surgery to become the sweet innocent looking Criminal called as Jipsa by the world.
Everything was planned from her seat number to her leaving the watch and hiding my mobile phone at the exact location where I would find her watch to me calling her to the bachelor party.
She confessed that she dissolved propranolol and scopolamine in my drink that she had offered me last night that made me a restless and a cruel beast by making me kill two of my buddies under no supervision of my own body.
I was proved innocent after her making the confession just for the fact that she loved me and couldn’t destroy my life just for not being with her. I was a free man and left the prison cell with mixed emotions of both anger and pity for Sonali aka Jipsa.
Well I have a happy family now. I love my wife. I have a decent job working with IBM in India. I have a decent pay package and I travel the world as the marketing and Logistics Head of IBM.
Well I have a flight bound to take me to Malaysia for the upcoming Seminar and am at the airport waiting for the flight.
I acquired my seat in the flight and there was a beautiful young lady sitting beside me reading the book Chanakya Chant by Ashwin Sanghi. I really wanted to start a conversation with her as I was man after all. I said Hi after 30 minutes in the flight. She introduced herself as Ishita and there was instant attachment of her to the books. I felt a little disappointed of her trying not to be part of the conversation but I was finally able to impress with my knowledge of the novel as I had already read it a few years back.
I didn’t realise I had reached Malaysia and as I was about to take my bag I turned around and found Ishita had already gone but she had left the book behind.
I opened it and a slip fell down from the book.
